Healing & Dance PT1

Healing is the process of making or becoming sound or healthy again. So, there may be a point in time when you are in need to be as healthy as you once were.

Maybe a decline has occurred in some part of your being that is the cause for your health to be revived. If that is something you have experienced or know of someone who has or is experiencing this need, we need to get you back to that point of health again.

Let’s consider ourselves as a whole being. Mind, Body and soul. Each part of us beautifully affects another part and is connected to the total well being of functioning at optimal health.

I want to help you become more aware and intentional about contributing to your consistent measures of accessing healing for your whole being. The first area I want to address in this regard is your PHYSICAL health and healing.

Our body is the temple we were given to take care of, and what better way to show good stewardship than to be intentional about the care we provide for ourselves.

A healthy body needs to stay active right?

A healthy body needs to good eating habits, right?

A healthy body needs to rest in order to renew right?

These are some of the things I want you to keep in mind as you join DOTP during the first month of the Healing and Dance semester. Later, we will discuss health for our mind and spirit.

*Staying Active

Dance is a great way to get your body active because it targets a lot of your muscle groups and helps to renew the cells in your body. I use a lot of dance fitness to prepare and maintain my body to be in its optimal shape for ministry.

Having a dedicated and regular routine for active fitness is a good portion of what you need to contribute to your physical health, but what about healing those areas in the body that need to be renewed to health again?

Let’s talk about water intake-

Since the body is made up of water, cells, bones, organs, blood, etc. I want to point out the necessity of understanding the importance of water intake.

It is said that the brain and heart are composed of 73% water, and the lungs are about 83% water. The skin contains 64% water, muscles and kidneys are 79%, and even the bones are watery: 31%. -H.H. Mitchell, Journal of Biological Chemistry 158.

There are several benefits that water does for your body. The main one that I want to focus on is that it is A vital nutrient that keeps every cell in your body alive.  Did you catch that? A Nutrient. If you lack water, you are lacking the nutrients that are essential for your cells.

Let’s talk about your body cells-

Why are cells important? They are important because they give your body structure and take and convert nutrients from food to give you energy.

Cells also reproduce/copy after themselves, so it good to have healthy cells in your body. According to researchers, the body replaces itself with a new set of cells every 7 years to 10 years [sources: Stanford UniversityNorthrup].

So, if we looked at our life span of 100 years we can expect for our bodies to change like this:

7-10 years old

14-20 years old

21-30 years old

28-30 years old

35-40 years old

42-50 years old

49-50 years old

56-60 years old

63-70 years old

77-80 years old

84-90 years old

91-100 years old

98-100 years old

Your diet, exercise habits, and other activities can prematurely age your cells. Identify where you are in age and make a plan to get your body in order before the next renewing!

Let’s talk about Dance fitness

Dance fitness and stretching can be considered if you are like me and do not like the gym.

Dance can help with blood flow throughout the body and Stretching can help your muscles stay flexible. This can help prevent injuries.

Food– pay attention to what you eat and works best for your body and blood. You don’t want to eat foods that act as a toxin to your body. (Get with your dr. or a nutritionist).

Sleep

Sleep is necessary for and contributes to your overall health. The lack of sleep can cause:

• A noticeable decrease in physical energy
• Diminished motivation
• Increased sensitivity to pain
• Cognitive changes (that is, in memory and concentration)
• Loss of efficiency
• Difficulty with attentiveness and staying on task
• Tendency to become affect your mood
• Weight gain
• other

A this is a quick blog thought to introduce a few main factors that contributes to your health, I hope that you would dive deeper into the necessity of what you need for your healing.

Bonus-

Other parts that also renew themselves

Skin:  These skin cells rejuvenate every two to four weeks.

Hair: The body’s natural fuzz has a life span of about six years for women and three years for men.

Liver: The liver is the human body’s detoxifier, purifying a wide variety of contaminants from our systems. It’s aided in the process by a constant blood supply and remains largely immune to damage from these toxins by renewing itself with new cells every 150 to 500 days.

Stomach and Intestines: Cells that line the surface of the stomach and intestines have a difficult, short life. Constantly battered by corrosives like stomach acids, they typically last only up to five days.

Bones: Cells in the skeletal system regenerate almost constantly, but the complete process takes a full 10 years. The renewal process slows down as we age, so our bones get thinner.
